The Propsail Listing Guide

We developed propsail.com for the seller and created a platform that simplified the listing process. With only one plan our sellers don’t have to weigh benefits over cost. Our model is to give a buyer what they want in a listing; it’s not to nickel and dime you. The process is a little more involved upfront, but it is an easy step by step platform that if followed will truly yield fewer but much stronger leads. Spending a few extra minutes upfront eliminates the need for one-and-done communications like “Can you send me more pictures?” Or “Does your boat have a trailer?” This saves you time and energy in the long run. By following our guide you can see just how easy the process can be.

Class of Boat

This is so crucial to getting right. As a seller you want to position your boat exactly where the builder intended. Eliminating the “if it can, it is” mentality positions your boat in front of the right audience. It is also very important because or questionnaire and information fields are directly relatable to the class.

The “Ski Boat,” you sure it is not a bowrider or for the center console owner, is it a bay boat or an off shore CC? While you may want to appeal to a broader audience, you might just eliminate the buyer that is looking for your exact boat.

Technical Specs and Features

This information is so critical but ofter overlooked. Propsail’s listing process highlights the important information that your potential buyers are looking for. Taking a little extra
time is so important in this process. Not only does this save you time answering questions later, we use the information to help buyers find your boat listing.

Pictures & Video

Propsail.com was developed with the mentality that you don’t have to have a pro camera to get quality listing photos. By following these few steps, even with the most common phones you can deliver a quality shot every time.

1. Set picture ratio to 16:9.

2. Rotate your phone and take all photos and videos in landscape orientation

3. Focus camera and fire away.
Taking pictures is the time to think as a buyer, what would you want to see? Detailed photographs of a clean, uncovered and uncluttered boat are crucial. We see it all too often when one or all three of those rules are broken. Take cues from the professionals on how they list their inventory. We offer the ability to load up to 50 images and not every boat needs 50 images; however every boat should have more than 6. If you have an action shot or two, that is ideal to include. Take a look at the images below for an example.

Primary Photo

The classic angle for photographing is a front three-quarter view, where you see both the front and the side. This should be the primary photo angle for all listings. There is data that proves this view is most appealing to viewers. Professional photographers spend serious amounts of time focusing on details like this.

Focus on the helm

A great helm shot gives potential buyers a visual of what it will be like sitting behind the controls. An important photo that no seller should skip as its a great opportunity for a buyer to create an emotional connection to your boat.

Highlight the all the extras

Get tight close up shots of the features, options and extras as these are the details that truly can make your boat stand out from others. It could be boring like pop up cleats or as exciting as a SeaKeeper, it all helps the sale. Most people are visual thinkers and reading about your boats sound system just is not the same. The trick here is to make sure you get close and fill the frame with the extra you’re photographing.
